Striving to meet the Rural Energy Needs in Pakistan



 Bio Energy Technology Applications Pak (BETA PAK) is working on the following Domestic and Commercial Biogas Projects in Pakistan:


1.        Partnership with Pakistan Dairy Development Company

BETA PAK and Pakistan Dairy Development Company (PDDC) has signed an MOU for joint ventures in the biogas technology development for domestic uses in Pakistan. The MOU has not only helped in identification and joint implementation of various biogas projects in Pakistan but also facilitated private sector biogas technology development by BETA PAK. Under this arrangement the domestic biogas plants already developed by PDDC is being jointly operated and maintained besides developing hundreds of biogas plants all over the country.  

2.        Partnership with Human Appeal International

BETA PAK and Human Appeal International has signed an MOU for joint ventures in the biogas technology development for domestic uses in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, AJK and Margalla National Park in the Islamabad Capital Territory. Under this arrangement domestic biogas plants are being developed through financial support by the Human Appeal International and technical support by BETA PAK.

 So far twenty biogas plants have been completed and handed over to the communities in Samani in, District Bhimber, AJK, ten domestic have been completed in the Buffer Zone of the Margala National Park in the Islamabad. With a view to bring the mushrooming poultry sector in the biogas net, a domestic biogas plant using poultry waste has been completed in Mansehra.          

3.        BETA PAK and Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) are working to develop a total of 450 domestic biogas plants. Out of this target, work on developing initial 116 plants in the model villages in the disaster affected districts of Liah, Bhakar and Mianwali are near to be completed in September 2011.                                         


 1.       Establishment of seven Commercial Biogas Plants for PARC:

          Seven Commercial Biogas plants, each with a capacity of producing 35 cubic meters on daily basis have been established in four Agricultural Research Stations of PARC for powering the water lifting pumps for irrigation purposes. The four Agricultural Research Stations are:

                     i.        NARC, Islamabad; two commercial biogas plants

            ii.      PARC Station DI Khan, Khyber Pakhrunkhawa one commercial biogas plant

            iii.    PARC Bahawalpur, Punjab two commercial biogas plant

            iv.    PARC Umerkot, Sindh, two commercial biogas plant

 2.        Partnership with Small Industrial Development Board of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa:

 BETA PAK and Small Industrial Development Board (SIDB) has signed an MOU for joint ventures in the biogas technology development for commercial uses in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. SIDB is facing acute energy shortage to run the small industrial enterprise across Khyber Pakhtunkhawa due to prolonged electric and gas load shedding. Various projects have been identified for development of biogas technology for small industrial units of SIDB.
